    • Nelson Bay Sculpture Festival is an acquisition based arts program which the team at Nelson Bay and District Business Chamber to implement to develop the cultural aspects of the community creating a focal point for arts tourism and to develop a trail of sculptures throughout the area over time.

      Nelson Bay Sculpture Festival is an annual sculpture competitions offering realistic prize monies for a range of categories in return the winning entries will remain within the local landscape.

      The aim is to start within the precinct of Nelson Bay Township and Foreshore and expand the geographic locations of the sculptures acquired as the number of sculptures increases to include, Little Beach, Shoal Bay Foreshore and Fingal Bay to the East and Dutchies Beach, Bagnalls Beach, Salamander Bay and Soldiers Point in the West.

      A plaque will be placed with each sculpture with a brief explanation of the art, the artists’ details and the year of acquisition, place in the completion and any of the major sponsor/partners of Nelson Bay Sculpture Festival. 

      The goals of the program are
        • To develop a significant and growing asset for the community which will enhance enjoyment of the natural environment
        • To acquire a series of sculptures which relate to the natural environment and enhance the tourism experience
        • To develop a Sculptures Trail
        • To develop greater links between Nelson Bay and District Business Chamber and the local arts community
        • To work with Council to provide access to art to the community.
      • Proposed Categories - categories will be confirmed as Prizes are made available.

      Miniature Sculpture

      Open for all artists – Indoor Sculptures
      – maximum size 750 x 750x750mm

       

      Landscape Sculpture

       

      Small Sculpture

      Open for all artists – Outdoor Sculptures in landscape Scale
      – minimum size 750 x 750x750mm

       

      Medium Sculpture

      Open for all artists – Outdoor Sculptures in landscape Scale
      – size up to 1500mm x 750x500mm

       

      Large Sculpture

      Open for all artists – Outdoor Sculptures in landscape Scale
      – minimum size 1501mm x 750x500mm

    • Prize monies of $4000 apply to the aquistion of sculptures from this category. 

    Youth Sculpture

    • Open to artists under 20 years of age

      – minimum size 750 x 750x750mm

       

    • People’s Choice Award

    • Drawn from a competition to the community to vote towards a winning piece. Competition results will be used in judging of the other categories.
